Understanding MOQ: How to Plan Your First Production Run
Minimum order quantities feel like a barrier. Understood correctly, they are a planning tool.

Minimum order quantity is the most misunderstood number in garment manufacturing. Brands often see it as an obstacle; experienced buyers see it as the point at which quality and price become sustainable for both sides.
MOQ exists because setup — marker making, fabric ordering, line changeover — carries fixed costs. Below a certain quantity, the per-unit price rises sharply and the mill cannot commit premium fabric.
The practical approach is to consolidate: fewer styles, more depth per style and colour. A focused range of 4–6 styles at healthy depth almost always produces a better landed cost and a cleaner collection than a wide, shallow range.
